Respite Care provides a short term, temporary relief to those who are caring for family members who might otherwise require a permanent placement in a facility, located outside the home.
Respite care offers short-term breaks for families and other unpaid care givers of children with developmental delays and adults with intellectual disabilities in order to support and maintain the primary care giving relationship.
In addition, respite creates a positive experience for the individual receiving care. Families find great enjoyment in taking care of their loved ones so that they can remain at home, but the physical, emotional, and financial consequences for the family care giver can be over whelming.
Respite Care provides the support and the much needed temporary break from the challenges that family caregivers face daily. Respite has shown to help family care givers health and well-being, avoid or delay out-of home placements, and reduces the likelihood of abuse and neglect. In-home care is very popular because the temporary caregiver learns the family's routine, and at the same time the care receiver is not inconvenienced by transportation and odd environments.
A specialized facility is also offered where a care receiver may stay for a few days or a few weeks. Respite Care is a positive program that provides a healthier less stressful environment for those individuals and families who deserve a break for all their efforts.
The National Safe kid campaign recommends that no child under the age of 12 be left at home alone.
